OAC Hosts Premiere Film Screening of Roberto Lugo’s short film Without Wax

OAC was honored to host the Premiere Film Screening for Roberto Lugo’s short film “Without Wax”.  The private screening was received very well by the invited guests.  The film was followed by a Q & A with the cast and crew.  The crowd participated in a very interesting discussion about the struggle of surviving as an artist, the challenges of growing up in poverty, and the hope to emerge from humble beginnings to affect a culture and movement.  Great thanks go out to Roberto Lugo (writer and actor), Edward Columbia (producer and writer), and Cyrus Duff (director) for sharing Without Wax with the OAC Community.

Without Wax is a docudrama about renowned artist/activist/educator Roberto Lugo. Roberto grew up in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods of Philadelphia. Despite this, he beat all of the odds to become a contemporary potter with a significant cultural impact.  Roberto recently received the Rome Art Prize for 2020.  His incredible artwork is sought out by collectors and museums all over the world. Without Wax was created in close collaboration with Roberto and shot on location in Philadelphia.  The docudrama short film is about the internal and external conflicts an artist faces in the pursuit of positive, radical social change.
